Behind the camera since 2003 – and still happiest where the people are.
I have been photographing since 2003. In that time I have tried a great deal and stayed with what interested me from the beginning: people. A wedding, a newborn, a board portrait, a fashion story – what they have in common is the moment someone stops watching themselves.
I am Milen Lesemann. I have been photographing since 2003, I speak German, English and Bulgarian, and I work from my studio in Berlin-Lichtenberg.

I started in 2003, and the reason has not changed: I am interested in what happens between people when nobody is posing. Technique is craft, not the point. After two decades you know your tools well enough to stop thinking about them – and that is exactly where you can start paying attention to the people instead of the camera.
I work from my studio in Berlin-Lichtenberg, in German, English and Bulgarian. A good part of the work takes me out of Berlin – into Brandenburg, across Germany and regularly abroad.
I photograph anything to do with people, and that is not a polite evasion. A business portrait and a newborn have more in common than you would think: in both cases the picture is decided the moment the person forgets they are being photographed. With a baby that takes seconds, with a chief executive sometimes half an hour. Both are fine – you just have to allow for it.
That is why my sessions are rarely hurried. I would rather set up once, calmly, and then leave time, than change the setup every two minutes and miss the very moments we came for.
My work has been shown in numerous exhibitions. It has been recognised by National Geographic and by Playboy, among others, along with awards from FIAP, the International Federation of Photographic Art.
More important than any certificate, though, is what clients say afterwards. On Google the studio stands at 5.0 out of 5 from 228 reviews – that is the number I keep an eye on.
Weddings are the part of my work that has taken me furthest: 638 weddings in 24 countries. You learn something there that cannot be practised – how differently people celebrate, and how similar the moments are that actually matter. A look between two people is no different in Sofia than it is in Berlin.

My photo studio is at Karl-Lade-Strasse 36 in Berlin-Lichtenberg, with a changing room and free parking outside. Portraits and application photos are made here, along with newborn and maternity sessions, smash the cake and family pictures. Everything else I photograph where it happens.
