Once in a lifetime you get to eat cake with your hands. In a cake smash session we celebrate the first birthday with decorations, cake and a lot of mess – and in the end you get pictures you will still laugh about in twenty years.
A cake smash session is a playful way to photograph your child's first birthday. I photograph cake smash sessions in my Berlin studio, giving your child time to explore the cake, touch it, taste it and make a mess. The photographs do not need to be perfectly clean. The expressions, curiosity and reactions are what make the session personal. As a children photographer, I work at your child's pace and allow time for a short break when needed.
I provide the cake and decoration for the session and can prepare them to match your chosen theme. This means the setup can be kept simple for you before arriving at the studio. You can tell me about the colours, character or general theme you have in mind, and I will use that as the basis for the setting. The focus remains on your child, with the decoration providing a background rather than taking over the photographs.
Pets are welcome during the session, so your child's birthday photographs can also include the family members who are part of everyday life. If you want photographs with parents, siblings or a pet, we can include them at suitable points. Children often interact differently when someone familiar is beside them, and those moments can lead to natural family photos alongside the cake smash images.
After the cake smash, we finish with bathtub photos. The bath gives your child a chance to clean up while creating a different set of playful images at the end of the session. My studio is at Karl-Lade-Strasse 36 in Berlin-Lichtenberg, with free parking and a changing room. I have been photographing since 2003 and speak German, English and Bulgarian. Your finished images are ready within five working days.
