The first birthday is a special moment, and a cake smash photoshoot captures exactly that mixture of curiosity, delight and a little chaos. In my studio in Berlin-Lichtenberg the photos do not have to follow a fixed plan. Your child may explore, taste, make a mess and decide for itself how close it wants to get to the cake. This is not about perfect poses. What comes out are natural photos of the first birthday that show how the day really felt. As a children's photographer I work calmly and without unnecessary time pressure.
I match the look of the cake smash session to the theme you have in mind. Cake and decoration can follow colours, interests or one particular idea. Whether plain and calm or with a clear motto, what matters is that the photos suit your child and you. A pet can be part of the session too, if it fits the situation and feels at ease in the studio. Alongside the typical cake photos you then also get pictures together that may matter just as much later on. The session takes place in the studio in Berlin, where clothes and small details can be prepared without rushing. There is a changing room.
After the cake smash itself things are allowed to calm down again. At the end come the bathtub photos, where the sticky hands and the cake chaos slowly disappear. Nothing is forced here either. The bathtub is a small part of the story in its own right and gives a different kind of photo than the ones with the cake. It is precisely this combination that makes the series varied: first the anticipation before the cake, then the exploring and playing, and finally the relaxed ending. If you like, you can bring in personal touches so the photos do not look like a ready-made template.
My studio is in Berlin-Lichtenberg, Karl-Lade-Strasse 36. Free parking is available, so arriving with a child and luggage stays simple. You get the finished photos within five working days. I have been photographing since 2003 and work in German, English and Bulgarian. The cake smash session is for families who want to hold on to the first birthday in pictures without turning it into a big production. What you get instead is a personal series of cake, play, small moments and the bath at the end.
As soon as your child can sit up unaided, usually between ten and fifteen months. Around the first birthday is the loveliest moment: curiosity is big enough to explore the cake, and shyness is still small.
You do. That way it tastes of your own baker and you know exactly what is in it. About 12 to 15 cm across works well, soft cream, no hard icing and nothing small fingers can hurt themselves on. I build the decoration in your colours, just send them to me after booking.
Not a problem. A cake without icing looks exactly the same in the photos, and many children would rather make a mess than eat anyway. Let me know beforehand and we will plan it that way.
That happens and it is no problem. Some children never touch the cake and only look at it, and that makes lovely photos too. We have time, there is no schedule we have to work through.
For your child something that is allowed to get dirty, or simply a nappy. For you calm colours that go together. Bring a change of clothes for everyone, plus a towel and wet wipes. It really does get colourful.
Yes, family photos are included in both packages. The loveliest ones usually happen when you join in the mess instead of standing next to it.
Gladly. Just let me know beforehand so I can allow a little more time. Dogs are as welcome in the studio as at home.
After the cake comes the tub, with foam and warm water. It is a part of the series in its own right and often the calmest: the sticky hands disappear and quite different photos appear.
